Name: Daiyu Lin
Age: 16 years
Gender: Female
Clique: Scholarship Pity Party
Clique Status: Newbie? =]
Picture:
Play by: Zhou Xun
Appearance:
Daiyu’s form is rather thin and sylphlike, standing at a moderate height of a hundred and sixty one centimeters. Her arms, torso and legs are softly curved and slender. Her poise and balance is faintly lithe, keeping herself as unnoticeable as possible, with as much cautious inquisitiveness in her steps as a cat prowling the streets.
Like most native to her homeland, she has lightly tanned skin and an oval face curving just slightly at the forms of her cheeks. Her brows are light and delicate, curving an inch above her almond shaped eyes, her nose pleasantly narrow. Her hair is thin, stopping at her shoulders and curving slightly to the contours of her face. Her lips, a balletic pink and quite tender to reactions, are pinned by gentle smiles, lines and pouts. She is not, nor ever will be a resplendent beauty, but her looks are likable enough to pass the definition of the word ‘decent’.
Personality:
At the top most layers, she is observant and unlikely to approach strangers with airs she may feel uncomfortable with. Many tend to regard her as the offspring of an uncouth and graceless family; to those who think so she will grant worlds of distance between herself to those even when they are merely a foot apart. But subtle acts of kindness break this barrier, and one comes to realize that Daiyu is more willing to open than people would think.
Having come from a distant region, mastery of language does not come easily which is evident in her thick accent and idiomatic fumbling, making her seem more backward than she really is. Despite the language barrier her emotions pull through as easily as a needle through fabric and her mind, although poorly expressed, is eloquent. Daiyu finds alternatives to express herself to overcome this limitations. One of the ways she has found out of her barrier is through the passion of music, specifically playing her instrument, the erhu.
It takes a lot to drive Daiyu angry, and if she does, she will return the barrier stripped of her and return distance. It is not in her nature to get into fights, tantrums or fits. Although tears may stain her face, her eyes glare straight through them. She is not one to lie or turn away from her emotions.
There is just much that she doesn’t understand, and few people in her eyes are available to answer them. Daiyu is a character who, like a new born infant, is trying to make sense of the new world around her. She learns something new every day.
History:
Daiyu is born to a people living in a Third World region of the world. People in her homeland are scattered due to widespread poverty. Her mother’s family mostly consists of traditional musicians, talent she supposedly has in her bloodline. The conditions of her father’s family are modest, owning several branches of tea houses. Daiyu has a taste and talent for brewing tea, but this falls short or any aide to her due to her gender. Taking over the family business never fell into women’s hands and had, expectantly, fallen into the hands of her older brother.
Nevertheless, she was raised with kindness, discipline and care in the home. She excelled in school standards, and was able to go on further than women of her town. Although education, in the eyes of the middle and peasant class, is futile for females, her parents continued encouraging her to continue. Sure enough, she landed herself a scholarship at Florence’s School for the Young.
When she first entered Florence’s School for the Young, she was set aback by their forms of etiquette. At a complete loss to introduce or explain herself, she kept close to the walls of the school examining those in the center. Over time, Daiyu realized that she felt most comfort with the Unnoticed. Little by little, her scope of understanding has increased, and her inability to express herself fully has improved.
Her observant nature has never tired, and she has not forgotten the encouragement to learn by her parents.
