I'm a man of wealth and taste...
Appearance: Annette is a small girl, but she makes up for it with her large personality. She has rather striking blue eyes and curly brown hair, all of which she is proud of. She loves the way she looks, and although she is at that awkward age of turning into a teenager, she doesn't let the insecurities bother her. She adores the dresses she wears, and although she hears people (such as her mother) complaining about not being able to wear trousers, she doesn't really care. She acquired her dainty freckles from playing around outside, and many who have met her find her to be adorable. She does not like to do herself up too much, except when there's a special event. In that case, she grabs her mother by the wrist, pulls her into the washroom, and won't let her out until she's completely done up and looking pretty. However, during a normal day, she won't wear make-up. Since puberty hasn't exactly hit yet, she doesn't see the need for it.
Since she has short arms and legs, it is difficult for her to reach high places, which is usually when she calls in her older brother for help. She acquired her blue eyes from her father as well as her nose, but her full lips are from her mother (who mostly seemed to pass over her genes to Eli, at least looks-wise). Her hair is difficult to manage, a trait shared by both Appleby children, but she's figured out how to let it not get too crazy.
Although she is normally a very carefree, mellow person, she gets very attached to shoes, in fact so attached that she refuses to buy another pair until her current favorite is completely torn apart and wrecked beyond repair. Her childish attachment to such a material item is rather inexplicable, but it may be something about disliking change.
Personality: Annette's personality can only be described as explosive. She is a very hyper person and is therefore not allowed to have any sweets. However, if she is around an adult that is unaware of her addiction to sugar, she will exploit their ignorance and ask them if she may, pretty please, have that candy cane over there, or perhaps the chocolate bar on the counter. She is in love with life, but not overly optimistic. In truth, she falls somewhere between optimism and pessimism, perhaps leaning toward the former a bit more. She also has a rather bizarre obsession with frogs. Whether she's catching them in the little creek to have as her pet or merely studying them, she's happy, and she usually takes her findings back to Eli so he can write about them. In fact, he's written many a story about Annette's frog findings, none of which Annette has been allowed to see.
Adults might describe her as a perfect angel, and although she could use this to her advantage and act like the most devilish thing that ever lived when the adults aren't around, she doesn't. She shows her true self to everyone since she has such extreme confidence, although there are, of course, times when she is shy. These are rare times indeed, but they still happen, usually around boys her age. She did go through a cootie stage, which she's just getting past now that she's almost thirteen, and transitioning into the awkward, timid phase. However, she is still her outgoing self in any other situation.
She likes it when things are nice, and although she has picked a few fights in her time, she is not one to question authority. She likes taking care of people, even people she shouldn't have to take care of. She loves baby-sitting because of the motherly role it gives her, and whenever somebody is sick, she jumps at the chance to take care of them. She will make them soup, pour them juice, and do anything else that might make them feel better. She can, however, also be rather forgetful.

I've been around for a long, long year...
History: She was born in England to two parents in a happy, loving marriage, and (at first) a rather jealous older brother. They went through a rough patch at the beginning of her life, which of course she doesn't remember, and now they get on really well. Annette looks up to Eli perhaps a little too much, always trying to say something witty to impress him. However, she also looks out for him and worries about him all the time. She knows (although, to spare the deflation of his ego, she doesn't bring it up with him) how difficult it is for him to make friends. She is constantly on the look-out for people he might get along with, although since that is such a small amount of people, they are hard to find. She asks him for advice sometimes, which he is usually very helpful with.
When Eli received his acceptance to Florence Academy, Annette congratulated him initially, then spent some time crying in her bedroom over it. She had, rather selfishly, been wishing he wouldn't get in, knowing how much she would miss him and how unlikely it was that she would get in on a scholarship as well. The three years without him were rather long and hard, since she spent each night studying her butt off instead of outside where she wanted to be. She was incredibly nervous as she awaited the letter that might never come, wondering if she would get in or if she would be a huge disappointment to her family. When the letter arrived, she was enthralled. She couldn't have been more excited to attend school with Eli, and was proud that she'd gotten in on a scholarship instead of with money.
She doesn't remember much of Emily, Eli's childhood friend, since Annette was only six when she died. She remembers flashes of the funeral and of Eli's hermit-like behavior afterward, but can't recall much besides that. According to her mother, she got along great with Emily, and sometimes they would play games together. She had been a little jealous of how much Eli liked Emily, so she remembers a little resentment toward the girl, and sometimes still feels it, despite the girl being dead.

Mother: Margaret Appleby (40)
Brother: Eli Appleby (15)
Anything you'd like to add? Her favorite color is pink. Very original.
