She glanced anxiously over her shoulder through cloudy grey eyes and thick lashes, the thin black veil of her hat slightly blocking her view of her surroundings. The frail breeze buffeted her petite frame in the black dress as she walked along the bitter path at a quickening pace, the new necklace she had bought heavy against her chest. She felt the presence of the man following her, but she did not want to acknowledge it. They will not take me She thought, the anger inside her chest building so much she had thought it would burst. Feeling the pressure of her fingers as she clenched her fist, she angrily chewed her deep colored lips, pursing them in a slightly annoyed way and furrowing her eyebrows at the thought of going there. Not following her footing, she tripped on a small crack in the stone and fell to her hands and knees, her mouth in an O shape. The mud flew everywhere, a few people stopped to stare, or laugh. She ignored them and swore, taking the muddied glove of her hand. There was thin stream of blood dripped down her wrist, she dabbed it away with the glove and shoved it in the small purse she was carrying. Brushing herself off she hustled into a grey stone building, taking on last glance behind her. She saw a flash of black, then nothing.
She walked up to the desk, feeling slightly weak, with the chill of the building getting to her. Shivering she pushed a small card to the women at the desk, feeling the oak wood scrape against her scratched knuckles. Looking her over, the women glanced at the card again. “It’s a late time to be traveling dear. Are you sure, you came to the right place? You sure look like your lost hon.” The woman asked kindly, putting her wrinkled hand over hers. She pulled her hand out from under the woman’s and her emotions just snapped. “NO ONE, I say NO ONE, can tell me what I can or can’t do!” She said, realizing she was screaming now. She felt streams of tears fall down her face, a few droplets stuck in her lashes. However, the woman only stared. She then realized the woman was looking behind her, so she turned.
She turned straight into a dark mans’ front, the smell of cigarettes was strong and overpowering. He grabbed her wrist forcefully as she struggled to break free. “Let go of me you bastard.” she spat, still pulling against his tight grip. He ignored her and headed for the door. Glaring at him, she tried to kick him, but he only blocked her feeble attempt with his leg. “We gave you the easy way Annaleise. Now, we go the hard way.” He growled, pulling her out the door and shoved her into a dark vehicle.
