Bryce watched her come near him, slipping into the water right near the dock, holding himself halfway up, as if doing a chin up, his hands gripping the wooden surface. He rested his chin there, studying her as she sat down 'indian style' looking quite prim and proper. A smile squirmed its way onto his face as she asked her question, and he shoved his shoulders upward, making an attempt to shrug. "Well. I wouldn't call it different," Bryce said, frowning slightly. "Just, ah..." He tried to think of the correct way to word to explain the difference between him and his friends. "No, not different, I'm just more tolerant." He grinned, his teeth flashing in the bright sunlight. "I'm able to deal with you girls a lot better than they are. They probably got pushed around by one of your rich ladies up there," he said, letting himself sink back into the water to rest his arms. His voice garbled up from below as he swam to stay afloat, his arms and legs working in overtime, the dark waters of the lake threatening to swallow him up.
Of course, now that she was sitting right there on the dock, it would probably be inappropriate to climb back up and shake the water off of his body. He wasn't entirely sure of that though...
Too bad, was his stubborn thought, and he hauled himself up onto the dock, his face slightly strained with the effort. "Oi," he said, shaking his longer hair free from the water, glancing over to her. "Yeah, I chose to be different. There's no reason to simply be angry with you all, or push you away. We're all humans- but only some of your friends seem to understand that. To most of them we are... filthy animals that steal good people's money." He grinned, laughter bubbling up from low in his throat.
"Not allowed to go swimming, or can't swim?" Bryce asked, looking at her with a twinkle in his eye. "What if you... fell in and ended up swimming around a bit to... 'stay alive?'" He asked, using air quotes around the words stay alive. "Just wondering, because if you really cannot swim because of your lack of skill, then I'm sure I could teach you."
He already had multiple plans to throw her in forming in his head. He glanced up to watch his friends, not wishing to swim with them anymore.
"You're different from them," he said, jerking his thumb back toward the school. "Why is that? Do you chose to be?"
He was suddenly solemn, curious, wondering.
Lillian couldn't help but pop into his mind.
